Carbon Offsets for photography assignments
Last week I flew to Colorado for the Nature Conservancy. I ended up flying on connecting flights that were close to ten-hours of Boeing 737 and Airbus 320/321 flight time, plus two-hours of turbine helicopter flight.
I purchased a carbon offset for these for flights via cooleffect.org. Commercial aviation is a major contributor to global warming and I want to counter-act my flights as much as possible. Turbine helicopters burn pretty clean but there is a soot residue that occurs and I included my two-hours of flight time into the offset.
Cool Effect helps fund some pretty impressive carbon reduction programs: If you are interested, check out their website. Some of the projects include methane capture, community tree planting, wind power and clean cookstoves.
It is not expensive to offset a photo shoot and several clients have said yes to participating and being billed for the offset.
